Safety is our priority here at Snohomish YMCA, especially the safety of the children in our care.Every year, we refresh our knowledge by renewing our education in safety-oriented trainings. Below you will find links and information on the most current, up-to-date trainings designed to improve everyone's safety.
Annual Trainings:
Child Abuse Prevention, Anti-harassment and Bloodborne Pathogens trainings:
To complete these classes, you will need to access your account with Great Academy. These trainings have to be done every year so make sure to keep a copy of your log-in and password.
If you have forgotten your password or other log-in information, please contact training@ymca-snoco.org
The two main trainings are: Child Abuse Prevention - called ‘Keeping Your Y Safe’ and an Anti-Harassment training called ‘Promoting a safe Environment, Employee Sexual Harassment Training’.
Here is a link to Great Academy:
Here are the instructions on how to access your current account with Great Academy:
If you are one of our wonderful volunteers - you will require an alternative class. See the instructions below:
And finally, here are some FAQ’s and additional information on training options available from Great Academy:
Abuse Prevention Acknowledgement:
Safety Checklist Form:
Basic Life Support (CPR), First Aid and emergency use of medical oxygen (EUMO):
YMCA of Snohomish County utilizes the Health & Safety Institute (HSI) as our carrier for Basic Life Support (an advanced version of CPR/AED), Adult First Aid and Emergency Use of Medical oxygen (EUMO).
To re-new your certification, connect with your supervisor or member services desk, and register for the in-person class of your choice through CORE. You will then be sent the online learning links that must be completed before you can attend the class. Registration closes a week before the class to allow time to complete this online work.
Depending on your role in the Y, this certification is required either annually or every two years.
Incident reporting:
Completing the training below is not required annually, but it never hurts to have a quick refresher on how to report incidences within your branch.
If someone is injured, suffers a medical emergency, exhibits bad behavior etc., it must be reported. Below is a pdf of a PowerPoint showing the step-by-step process of using the App we use for reporting:
And here are some FAQ’s on when and how to make the report:
Non-Snohomish YMCA trainings
Some trainings and certifications are taken outside of the YMCA of Snohomish County. Here is some general information on the re-certifying process for the most common of these. This by no means constitute the complete range of options available! Your supervisor is a great resource for information on trainings pertinent to your role.
Also, please remember that we are not automatically notified of your continuing education, and you will need to send a copy of your certificate to training@ymca-snoco.org in order for your file in Kronos to be updated.
Portable Background Check Application:
Every three years, staff in Childcare will need to email MERIT DFYC with your correct birthdate to re-new their background checks with the state:
LCDC certifications:
This includes all learnings and certifications taken through the Learning & Career Development Center (the LCDC), the national YMCA training website, such as Foundations of Group Exercise, YMCA Lifeguard, etc.
To register for a training:
- Log into your account in the LCDC.
- On the left, in the Quickstart box, click on ‘find classes’. On the far right you will see a box labeled ‘course name’, type in the name of the course you want to attend, if there are multiple classes, highlight the one you want, then click on the ‘search’ button at the top of the page. You will then be given all available options, click on the one you need, and proceed through the registration process.
- When you get to the payment page you will have three options.
- If you are registering for an in-person training, simply press ‘next’ and ignore the payment page.
- If it is an online learning that has a fee, press ‘send to training manager’. We will be notified and as soon as we submit payment, you will receive an email from YUSA giving you access to the training.
- The third option is to pay for the class yourself. All trainings and certifications required for your job are paid for by us, so we do not recommend this option.
For further information, you can click on this link showing how to register for all trainings in the LCDC:
ACE, ACSM, and other nationally recognized certifications
There are several Healthy Living based national certifications that are accepted by YUSA, and therefore are accepted by us. Here is a list of all that are recognized:
Please discuss which certification you would like with your supervisor BEFORE you begin your education.
American Red Cross lifeguard certification is acceptable during hiring, however, once it expires you are required to take the YMCA Lifeguard class.
